Why Chilean Spanish?

Chilean Spanish is the variety of Spanish spoken in Chile, known for fast pronunciation, its own slang and everyday words, and informal verb forms. Official papers follow standard Spanish, but letters, messages and forms often include Chilean wording that changes the meaning if it is read as standard Spanish. That is why the translator needs to know both.

Which Chilean Documents Do We Translate,
and What Do We Check?

Quick answer: Name the document and its recipient. Everything on the page is translated: printed text, seals, apostilles, handwritten additions and dates. Names are matched to your passport, and the layout follows the original so the English version can be read beside it. Papers already in English are returned with a note saying so.

What Is Different About Chilean Spanish
When It Is Translated?

Quick answer: Chilean Spanish keeps standard grammar in official papers but adds slang, shortened words and local terms in letters, messages and forms. A translator who misses them can change the meaning. We translate for meaning, keep institution names such as Fonasa, and explain them briefly in English.
Chilean usageWhat it meansHow we handle it
Licencia médicaA doctor’s sick-leave certificate, not a licence.Translated as a medical leave certificate and kept apart from licencia de conducir, the driving licence.
Pololo, polola, pololearBoyfriend, girlfriend, and dating.Rendered in plain English to suit the context. This matters in relationship evidence for spouse and partner visas.
Cachai, po, al tiro, bacán, fomeEveryday slang: you know, emphasis, straight away, great, boring.Translated for meaning, so messages and letters read naturally. Strong words are never softened.
Luca, lucasOne thousand pesos.Written out with the peso figure, so a reader cannot misjudge the amount.
$15.000 and 1.250,50Chile uses a full stop for thousands and a comma for decimals.Amounts are shown in UK format, so $15.000 reads as 15,000 pesos.
Isapre, Fonasa, AFP, RUNA private health insurer, the public health fund, a pension fund manager and the national ID number. The Spanish name stays, with a short English explanation the first time it appears.

Why Book Our Chilean Spanish Translation
Services

Quick answer: The reasons are a translator briefed on Chilean wording, a certificate laid out to the Home Office checklist, and a price stated in advance. If you also need someone to speak as well as translate, our Spanish interpreters work in person and by video or phone.
🏅

Every translation is checked against the original. A second pass compares each name, date, number and stamp with your original before the certificate is signed.

  • 01

    Chilean Wording Read Correctly

Chilean letters, forms and messages mix standard Spanish with local slang and shorthand. Your document goes to a translator who has been briefed on both, so nothing is mistaken for something else.

  • 02

    Chilean Civil Records Handled Properly

A certificado from the Registro Civil, a notary’s poder or a university concentración de notas each has its own layout. Every entry, seal, apostille and handwritten line is rendered in English.

  • 03

A Certificate Built to the Home Office Checklist

The signed statement lists the translator’s name, signature, date and contact information. If a court, university or employer has its own rules, tell us and we check them. Our certified work is accepted by UKVI, the Home Office, courts and universities.

Chilean Spanish Translation Services: What to Expect

If you hold papers from Chile, we can help you use them in Britain. We work from East Ham, turning Chilean Spanish into English and English texts into Spanish. The whole job runs online: you send the file, and the signed translation returns to your inbox. Wider options are on our certified translation page, and our translation services London homepage lists every service.

What is Chilean Spanish, and why does it need its own translator?

Chilean Spanish is the Spanish spoken in Chile, with local words, slang and shortened forms. Official papers use standard Spanish, but letters, messages and forms do not. A translator who does not know the local words can misread a sentence. That is why we brief each translator on Chilean wording first.

What makes a Chilean document translation certified?

The translator adds a signed declaration saying the English text is a complete and accurate version of the original, together with a date and a way to reach them. Without it, many UK bodies will not read a foreign-language paper at all.

Certified Chilean translation

How are Chilean surnames and RUN numbers translated?

Chileans have two surnames, the father’s first and the mother’s second. UK forms sometimes read the second one as a middle name, so we copy the spelling from your passport. The RUN, Chile’s national ID number, stays exactly as printed, check digit included. Send a passport copy with your order.

Does a Chilean document need an apostille?

Chile has applied the Hague Apostille Convention since 30 August 2016, so many Chilean public documents carry one. Whether you need it depends on who receives the paper. We translate the apostille like everything else, and it is billed separately if you need us to arrange one.

How do you translate Chilean slang in messages and letters?

For meaning, not word by word. Messages used as relationship evidence often include words such as pololo, cachai or al tiro. We render them in natural English, keep the tone, and never soften strong language. Dates and amounts follow UK format, so $15.000 reads as 15,000 pesos.

How are Chilean grades and qualifications translated?

Chile marks from 1.0 to 7.0, and 4.0 is the pass mark. We keep your original grades and do not convert them. If a university or employer wants a comparison with UK qualifications, UK ENIC can supply a comparability statement.

Chilean Spanish translator or interpreter: which one?

Translators deal with writing, while interpreters speak aloud in clinics, courtrooms and meetings. Many clients use both, and we provide both. Our Spanish interpreter, court interpreter and immigration interpreter pages explain more.

Can I order from anywhere in the UK?

Yes, from any city, town or village in the UK. Files travel electronically, so nothing about the process depends on where you live. Printed copies can be posted, and you may call at our East Ham office once an appointment is booked.

What affects the price of a Chilean Spanish translation?

Four things: document type, page count, legibility and deadline. The pricing section explains each, and the price you are given is the price you pay.

Chilean Spanish Translation Services —
Common Questions

Quick answer: These answers cover certification, Chilean wording, apostilles, surnames, grades, interpreters and pricing. Each reply reflects the same terms we apply to every Chilean Spanish job. If your question is not covered here, call or message us, and a quote usually arrives within 30 minutes while we are open.

Yes. We prepare certified Chilean Spanish translations for visa files, court bundles, university applications, NHS paperwork and employer checks. The translator signs a statement that the English is accurate, adds the date and gives their contact details. The price is agreed in writing before any work starts.

Chilean Spanish is a regional variety with its own slang, idioms, verb forms and everyday words. A phrase such as licencia médica means a sick note in Chile, not a licence. Official papers follow standard Spanish, but letters, messages and forms often carry Chilean wording, so the translator needs to know it.

Expect to pay £35–£45 per page. Where you land in that range depends on the type of document, the page count, how readable the scan is and how soon you need it. We confirm one fixed figure in writing, usually within 30 minutes during opening hours, so nothing is added later.

Yes. Our certified translations are accepted by UKVI, the Home Office, courts and universities. Each one carries the translator’s signed statement of accuracy, the date, their full name and contact details, which matches GOV.UK guidance. If the recipient has extra rules, tell us and we check them before we start.

Most certificates and short documents take one to two working days. A same-day rush may be possible for brief texts that reach us early. Long contracts, court bundles and handwritten records need longer. Give us your deadline when you ask for a quote, and we tell you honestly what fits.

Yes. We translate the certificado de nacimiento, certificado de matrimonio, certificado de defunción and certificado de antecedentes, along with ID cards and driving licences. Every entry, stamp, seal and handwritten note is translated, and names are matched to your passport. Send a clear scan and we confirm the price.

That depends on who receives it, so ask them. The translation does not replace an apostille. Chile has applied the Hague Apostille Convention since 30 August 2016, so many Chilean public documents carry one. If yours does, we translate the apostille too, together with every seal and stamp on the page.

We copy names exactly as they appear in your passport. Chileans use two surnames, the father’s first and the mother’s second, and UK forms may handle them differently. The RUN, Chile’s national ID number, stays as printed, including the check digit. Send a passport copy with your order so every spelling matches.

Yes. We translate transcripts (concentración de notas), degree certificates and school records. Chile marks from 1.0 to 7.0, with 4.0 as the pass mark, and we keep your original grades rather than converting them. UK ENIC can issue a comparability statement if a university or employer asks for one.

Yes. Spanish interpreters attend in person or join by video or phone from anywhere. Tell us that the speaker uses Chilean Spanish and we match an interpreter accordingly. All interpreters are NRPSI registered and Ministry of Justice approved. The rate is £35–£45 per hour, confirmed in writing first.

Yes. We translate letters, contracts, leaflets, websites and marketing material from English into Spanish for readers in Chile. Tell us the audience and whether the tone should be formal or friendly, and the translator adapts vocabulary and forms of address. A certified English-to-Spanish version is available too.

Because official bodies want a signed human translation, not machine output. Free tools also miss Chilean slang, abbreviations such as AFP and Isapre, and stamps or handwriting. A machine version has no translator’s statement, so UKVI, courts and universities may reject it. A certified translation avoids that risk.

Fill in the form on this page, call +44 1618 261 333 or send the document on WhatsApp. Say what it is and who needs it. During opening hours, 9am to 8pm on weekdays and 10am to 4pm at weekends, a fixed quote normally reaches you within about 30 minutes.
